The Best Lesbian Romance Books

A Fake Relationship Lesbian Romance Book

Darcy is tired of her brother trying to fix her up, so after a disastrous blind date with Elle, his coworker, she fibs and tells him that they were a match.

Elle is ready to find her soul mate but she’s assured that it is not Darcy who couldn’t be more opposite to the care-free astrologer. But when she finds out that Darcy lied to her brother saying that they are now dating, she somehow agrees to Darcy’s plan to fake date through the holidays.

And the more these two spend time with one another, it appears love may be written in the stars for these two opposites after all.

I really liked this opposites attract story between the quirky astrologer and the straight-laced actuary. It wasn’t overdone to make either seem like an extreme personality or that they wouldn’t be able to find commonality.

A well-written debut novel and an overall adorable book that I didn’t want to put down. I highly recommend it! Check out my review of Written in the Stars.

A Second Chance, Friends to Lovers Lesbian Romance

Margot Cooper doesn’t do relationships. But when she comes face-to-face with Olivia Grant—her childhood friend, her first love, her first… well, everything, she’s not so sure about that stance.

Olivia must be hallucinating. Never in a million years did the wedding planner expect her important new client’s Best Woman would be the one that got away.

When a series of unfortunate events leaves Olivia without a place to stay, Margot offers up her spare room. As they spend time in close quarters, Margot starts to question her no-strings stance. But will history repeat itself or should she count her lucky stars that she gets a second chance with her first love?

Bellefleur again dazzled with this lesbian romance that was surprisingly really HOT!

Margot is starting to feel like the fifth wheel now that her friends are paired up with their special someones when she comes face to face with her childhood friend.

She hasn’t seen Olivia for eleven years since their childhood friendship ended after a very hot and heavy spring break where they crossed the line from friends to lovers.

When she offers up her apartment when Olivia needs to stay, it creates a really great forced proximity situation for these two to finally mend their friendship and possibly become more. Check out my review of Count Your Lucky Stars.

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care
by Ashley Herring Blake

Small Town Lesbian Romance Books

Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls—nothing is there for her but memories of a lonely childhood where she was little more than a burden to her cold and distant stepfamily.

Her life is in New York, with her photography career finally gaining steam and her bed never empty. Sure, it’s a different woman every night, but that’s just fine with her.

When Delilah’s estranged stepsister, Astrid, pressures her into photographing her wedding, Delilah returns to town and plans to keep her trip brief until she sees Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid’s stuck-up besties, and decides that maybe there’s some fun (and a little retribution) to be had in Bright Falls, after all.

Having raised her eleven-year-old daughter mostly on her own while dealing with her unreliable ex and running a bookstore, Claire Sutherland depends upon a life without surprises. And Delilah Green is an unwelcome surprise…at first.

Though they’ve known each other for years, they don’t reallyknoweach other—so Claire is unsettled when Delilah figures out exactly what buttons to push.

When they’re forced together during a gauntlet of wedding preparations—including a plot to save Astrid from her horrible fiancé—Claire isn’t sure she has the strength to resist Delilah’s charms. Even worse, she’s starting to think she doesn’t want to.

Check out this lesbian romance book if you love found family books and storylines where characters are able to confront their conflicting feelings about their past and finally move on with a promising future. There’s a reason it was nominated for Best Romance in the 2022 Goodreads Choice Awards!

D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding
by Chencia C. Higgins

A Fake Relationship Lesbian Romance Book

Instant I Docould be Kris Zavala’s big break. She’s right on the cusp of really making it as an influencer, so a stint on reality TV is the perfect chance to elevate her brand. And $100,000 wouldn’t hurt, either.

D’Vaughn Miller is just trying to break out of her shell. She’s sort of neglected to come out to her mom for years, so a big splashy fake wedding is just the excuse she needs.

All they have to do is convince their friends and family they’re getting married in six weeks. If anyone guesses they’re not for real, they’re out.

Selling their chemistry on camera is surprisingly easy, and it’s still there when no one else is watching, which is an unexpected bonus. Winning this competition is going to be a piece of wedding cake.

But each week of the competition brings new challenges, and soon the prize money’s not the only thing at stake. A reality show isn’t the best place to create a solid foundation, and their fake wedding might just derail their relationship before it even starts.

What’s not to love about this lesbian romance book set within a reality TV show? I have a thing for fake relationship books because I love watching the characters try to ignore their growing feelings when you can just see the chemistry jump off the page.

The Perks of Loving a Wallflower
by Erica Ridley

A Historical Lesbian Romance Book

As a master of disguise, Thomasina Wynchester can be a polite young lady—or a bawdy old man. She’ll do whatever it takes to solve the cases her family takes on.

But when Tommy’s beautiful new client turns out to be the highborn lady she’s secretly smitten with, more than her mission is at stake.

Bluestocking Miss Philippa York doesn’t believe in love. Her heart didn’t pitter-patter when she was betrothed to a duke, nor did it break when he married someone else. All Philippa desires is to decode a centuries-old manuscript to keep a modern-day villain from claiming credit for work that wasn’t his.

She hates that she needs a man’s help to do it—so she’s delighted to discover the clever, charming baron at her side is in fact a woman. But as she and Tommy grow closer and the stakes of their discovery higher, more than just their hearts are at risk.

Mystery, disguises, and scheming abound in this queer Regency romance novel. Check it out for a female/non-binary lesbian romance that’s high on steam!

A Historical Lesbian Romance Book

When Lucy Muchelney accepts a job to translate a groundbreaking French astronomy text, she hoped to find a challenge, not a woman who takes her breath away.

While both women falling in love, can they find the strength to overcome sabotage and stay together?

This one of the most popular lesbian romance books from an author with quite the catalog of sapphic romance titles. If you’re going to read a novel in this category, why not start with one of the most popular?

A Small Town Lesbian Romance Book

Devyn Winters is a Philadelphia real estate broker who’s more comfortable closing multimillion-dollar deals than remembering her formative years in boring Dreamer’s Bay.

When she’s called back home, she starts counting the moments until she can leave again. Only now she’s looking at her former classmate, Elizabeth Draper in a whole new light.

If you’re going to read a lesbian romance book, then a title by Melissa Brayden is a must. I love the setup of this small town romance where former classmates who didn’t click definitely seem to sing a different tune as adults.

A Lesbian Romance Book Made into a Movie

Tala, a London-based Palestinian, is preparing for her elaborate Middle Eastern wedding when she meets Leyla, a young British Indian woman who is dating her best friend.

Spirited Christian Tala and shy Muslim Leyla could not be more different from each other, but the attraction is immediate and goes deeper than friendship. As Tala’s wedding day approaches, simmering tensions come to boiling point and the pressure mounts for Tala to be true to herself.

I love it when romance books are made into movies so this one definitely caught my eye since it was made into a movie!

I also love the diversity in the different characters and the culture clash that occurs. Check it out then watch the movie.

A Lesbian Romance Novella

Kiskeya Burgos left the tropical beaches of the Dominican Republic with one goal in mind: win the Holiday Baking Challenge. She will stop at nothing to win and prove to her family that she can make it in the culinary world, only she can’t keep her eyes off her infuriating teammate.

Sully Morales loves baking and is determined to win the Holiday Baking Challenge. She just has to convince her grumpy AF baking partner that they make a great team both in and out of the kitchen before an unexpected betrayal ends their chance to attain culinary competition glory.

This book had me at pastry and Scotland! While this book is a novella at 126 pages, I can’t wait to see the sparks fly between these two chefs.

A Historical Lesbian Romance Novel

“Luke” Hamilton has always been sure that she’d never marry. She accepted that she would spend her life alone when she chose to live her life disguised as a man.

After working in a brothel for three years, Nora Macauley has lost all illusions about love. She no longer hopes for a man who will sweep her off her feet and take her away to begin a new, respectable life.

But now they find themselves married and on the way to Oregon in a covered wagon, with two thousand miles ahead of them.

A single mother and a woman masquerading as a man….let’s check this one out! I love historical romance novels though haven’t read a lot focusing on westward expansion in the U.S. so I’m very intrigued with this one.

A Celebrity, Fake Relationship Lesbian Romance

British A-lister and closeted actress, Elizabeth Thornton hates the top-rated TV medical drama that she stars in. To add insult to injury, she’s become romantically linked to her new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman’s clumsiness.

Elizabeth is desperate to land her dream movie only the eccentric French film-maker insists on meeting her “girlfriend,” Summer, first.

This lesbian romance includes another one of my favorite romance book tropes – the fake relationship love story.

I guess it’s also a bit of enemies to lovers given the frustration and angst that started their relationship rumors in the first place.

This is one of my top picks from the list!

Payback’s a Witch
by Lana Harper

A Witch Lesbian Romance Book

Emmy Harlow is a witch but not a very powerful one—in part because she hasn’t been home to the magical town of Thistle Grove in years. Her self-imposed exile has a lot to do with a complicated family history, and only the very tiniest bit to do with Gareth Blackmoore, heir to the most powerful magical family in town and casual breaker of hearts and destroyer of dreams.

But when a spellcasting tournament that her family serves as arbiters for approaches, it turns out the pull of tradition is strong enough to bring Emmy back. She’s determined to do her familial duty and spend some quality time with her best friend, Linden Thorn.

On her first night home, Emmy runs into Talia Avramov who is adept in the darker magical arts and fresh off a bad breakup with Gareth Blackmoore.

Talia had let herself be charmed, only to discover that Gareth was also seeing Linden—unbeknownst to either of them. And now she and Linden want revenge. Only one question stands: Is Emmy in?

But most concerning of all: Why can’t she stop thinking about the terrifyingly competent, devastatingly gorgeous, wickedly charming Talia Avramov?

If you want to mix a bit of fantasy and magic in your lesbian romance book, definitely check out this witch romance book.

Nothing like enacting a bit of revenge on a former lover to bring about a happily ever after sapphic love story.

Trisha Hamilton has finally gotten the credits and the money together to transfer to a four-year university. She can’t seem to hide her feelings for Alexis, even when Trisha discovers what she has been through, but will Alexis have the strength to be just as fearless about their new love?

If you’re looking to dip your feet into the lesbian romance book category, a novella is a great start. This sounds like a great college romance from Weatherspoon.

A Time Traveling Lesbian Romance

August looks forward to seeing Jane every day on the train. Only her subway crush is impossible because Jane is a girl lost in time, displaced from the 1970s.

I fell in love with McQuiston’s debut novel, which is an incredible MM romance book so there was no doubt I was going to read this one.

If time travel is an element you like, this lesbian romance book is one to check out.

A Fantasy, Lesbian Romance Book

Imprisoned by her brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin.

Priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to clean Malini’s chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.

But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.

I’ve found a love of fantasy romance books so when I saw this book, it instantly stood out as a different type of lesbian romance worth reading.

It’s book one in a trilogy and is set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India. Sounds very cool!

When they finally make it to Ibarania, they realize there’s more at stake than just cash and crown, and Makeda must learn what it means to fight for what she desires and not what she feels bound to by duty.

This was an interesting read as I never expected to find these two women aboard a cargo ship. If you love the story of Anastasia and the long-lost princess, this royal romance may appeal.

For Her Consideration
by Amy Spalding

A Hollywood Lesbian Romance Book

Since a crushing breakup three years ago, Nina Rice has written romance, friends, her dreams of scriptwriting for TV, and even LA proper out of her life. Instead, she’s safely out in the suburbs in her aunt’s condo working her talent agency job from home, managing celebrity email accounts, and certain that’s plenty of writing—and plot—for her life.

But a surprise meeting called by Ari Fox, a young actress on everyone’s radar, stirs up all kinds of feelings Nina thought she’d deleted for good.

Ari is hot, out and proud, and a serious control freak, according to Nina’s boss. She has her own ideas about how Nina should handle her emails—and about getting to know her ghostwriter.

When she tells Nina she should be writing again, Nina suddenly finds it less scary to revisit her abandoned life than seriously consider that Ari is flirting with her.

Between reconnecting with her old crew and working on a new script, a relationship with a movie star seems like something she’ll definitely mess up—but what could be more worth the risk?

Hollywood life seems to be a popular setup for recent contemporary lesbian romance books and this one is no different.

I love books about writers and characters who revisit their dreams so this one is a keeper.

The Romance Recipe
by Ruby Barrett

A Grumpy Sunshine Lesbian Romance Book

AmyChambers will do anything to revive her ailing restaurant, including hiring a former reality-show finalist with good connections and a lot to prove. But her hopes that Sophie Brunet’s skills and celebrity status would bring her restaurant back from the brink of failure are beginning to wane.

Sophie just wants to cook. She doesn’t want to constantly post on social media for her failing reality TV career, and she doesn’t want to think about what her attraction to her boss might mean.

Then, an opportunity: a new foodie TVshow might provide the exposure they need. An uneasy truce is fine for starters, but making their dreams come true means making some personal and painful sacrifices and soon, there’s more than just the restaurant at stake.

This lesbian romance book also features a reality TV show storyline and sounds too delicious to pass up.

If you also adore the grumpy sunshine trope Sophie seems to fit the bill, but I think her desperation to ignore her attraction to her boss is the best part of this novel.
